This was our first full day in Lima. We did some walking, went out for dinner and generally had a good time. But without a doubt the highlight of the trip was going to the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC).
It’s a small museum, but it’s packed with interesting artwork.
One of my favorite installations included this:
But that wasn’t even my favorite part of the installation.
One wall was covered with what appeared to be newspaper headlines chronicling World War II. It was a fascinating way to tell the story of the war. But after spending some time looking at the wall, I discovered something that made the exhibit even more remarkable.
See if you can spot it as you go through the gallery.
Did you notice?
From a distance, and even when you get fairly close, the headlines look like photographs of old newspaper front pages.
But they’re not photographs. They’re paintings!
Every one of those headlines was painted to look like an actual newspaper page. Unbelievably cool!
Another exhibit that caught my attention was a sculpture made entirely out of matchsticks.

And right next to it, was a video of them having set it on fire!
I wish I could take all of you to the museum to experience these exhibits in person. Hopefully, the photos and videos give you at least a taste of what made the visit so memorable.
The rest of our day included a nice dinner and some physical therapy back in our hotel room.
All in all, a pretty good first day in Lima!
