Not a lot happened today. It was one of our travel days so it isn’t bad that nothing happened, we didn’t expect much. And the day did have a number of strange little things along the way that are worth sharing. For example:

For reasons that we haven’t been able to figure out, we cannot use our credit card to buy gasoline at the pump in New Zealand. Our credit cards work everywhere else, but not at the pump. This can (and has been) a royal pain in the tush. Today, for example, we couldn’t buy gas for our rental car (before returning it) a the first two gas stations we stopped at. The first one, again, declined the card when we tried to buy at the pump and the second one wouldn’t even take the card inside. But the third place we tried, could take the card inside (but still, not at the pump). OK, this is hardly a major inconvenience but it is annoying as heck.

We were in the airport in Nelson when the fire alarms went off. It turns out they were having a fire drill and the whole airport had to evacuate briefly. I understand that this makes sense, they need to know everything works properly, and it was more than a little weird. On the positive side it did make time move quicker for us (it took two planes to get us to Queenstown.

I’m walking to the rental car and all of a sudden my left leg gives out. WTF? A few other times during the day I had this strange pain in my left thigh causing my leg to feel weak. So I took out the hiking poles and used them for most of my walking and putting some of my weight on the poles made it all good. Until I put the poles away for dinner, started waking back to our hotel and the leg started feeling weird again. I’m going to soak it tonight and hopefully all will feel better, but that also was, can we say it together folks: “weird.”

We got to Queenstown in the afternoon, went for a walk in “The Gardens”, had a great dinner like side, and are sitting in our apartment relaxing while utilizing the washing machine down the halls to have clean clothes for tomorrow’s adventure. Like I said, nothing bad and, it was a most unusual day. This last picture is of a 1912 steamboat the runs up and down the lake and docked next to our table at the restaurant. Pretty cool actually.
